The Songor Basin & Salt-Chemical Surge
Ghana hosts some of West Africa’s most prolific natural hypersaline resources, particularly concentrated in the Ada Songor Lagoon and Keta basins. Historically reliant on rudimentary artisanal panning, the salt sector is undergoing aggressive industrial capital investment to supply chlor-alkali plants, gold mining refineries, and regional petroleum extraction markets throughout ECOWAS.
To convert crude crystallization into chemical-grade NaCl (≥99.5% purity) or food-grade iodized product, local processors are rapidly replacing inefficient handling with automated washing, size-reduction roller mills, anti-corrosive conveyors, and industrial drying systems.
